On Sun, June 24 at 1:30 pm, I went to a program called Top Technology Trends & LITA Awards Presentation. In the beginning of the program, the LITA President presented awards and scholarships for outstanding achievements in technology.
Next, a panel discussed tech trends librarians should monitor and how the trends will impact library users today. Panelists were:
Lorcan Dempsey from OCLC Meredith Farkas Nina ? Stephen Abrams
The discussion was quite meandering and convoluted, so I will list just a few of the items they covered:
-ways to manage data about things (Wikidata, schema.org)
-need to design catalog instruction for users not ourselves (good example is Guide on the Inside by Univ of AZ)
-consider the needs of mobile users (Mobile First app)
-responsive web design - a single website that reshapes itself based on the device used to access it
